Rocky v1.5 is live

Today we're shipping Rocky v1.5, and it's the biggest jump in quality we've released so far. It's more accurate, far more precise in how it changes your board, and it can now actually see the layout it's working on. It also costs less than half as much per task.

Better scores, lower cost

On PCB-Bench v1.5, our internal benchmark for real-world board design tasks, Rocky v1.5 scores 93.6, up from 76.3 in the previous version, a 17-point improvement.

The median edit Rocky makes has dropped from 3,884 bytes to just 108, roughly 36 times smaller. Rather than rewriting large chunks of the board to accomplish something small, Rocky now makes targeted, minimal changes.

Unrelated parts, nets and routed copper now survive 97% of edits, up from 64% on the same underlying model. If you've spent hours routing a section of your board, you can now ask for changes elsewhere with far more confidence that your work stays intact.

Rocky v1.5 can now visually inspect the board it's editing. Alongside the image, it can see its layout report covering every part's position, the gaps between components, and how they're aligned.

This gives Rocky the spatial awareness it was missing. Tasks like "line these connectors up along the edge" or "space these decoupling caps evenly" depend on understanding the layout as a whole, not just the netlist. On alignment edits specifically, Rocky's score went from 69 to 94 on our bench (there actually aren't any benchmarks out there for PCB design, only text-only Q&A and manual routing ones; we will have more news to share about this soon).
